If you love to knit and sew, you can hold classes to teach people how to create their own item choices, by sewing or knitting them! You could do this in two classes that would be two hours per class. You should be able to reasonably expect to charge about $40 per class.
First, you will need to master knitting or sewing the purses, before you can teach it to others. Supply the necessary materials to your students, so they can make their first one by the time the class is completed. Most people that love to sew and knit as a hobby are good at it. Why not take a skill that you have mastered and teach it to others. It is amazing how many people have not had the opportunity to learn these skills from a family member or school classes. For most baby boomers, we had to learn these skills while in High School. That isn't true anymore for young people that attend school now.
There has been a renewed interest in sewing and knitting the last couple of years. Take advantage of this new interest and if you already have mastered these skills share them with others, by teaching them to others that really want to learn a new hobby. You could do this in two classes that would be two hours per class. Plan to accomplish a simple distinct task like the construction of a purse, shawl, blanket, or scarf. Alternatively, let your students pick one of a few different starter activities that they should be able to finish within the two, two-hour classes.
Supply the necessary materials in a complete kit that you can give to your students, so they can make their first item choice, by the time the class is completed. You should be able to charge about $40 per student, just make sure that you don't have to spend too much money for each kit that you offer each person in the class. Make sure that you have plenty of kits prepared ahead of time, so that each student will be able to pick a kit, which they will look forward to making and enjoy constructing.
You can offer to teach these students in a local school classroom, community center, or even a craft store that sells the needed supplies for more projects after they learn their new hobby. You may want to help them out with their next projects also, or offer them a more advanced class if they are interested.
You could advertise in your local newspapers offering your classes. Other good places to offer your classes would be your local schools, craft stores, and community centers that may offer after-school and adult classes.
