Using your imagination, think up designs that are easy to make, and can be created with a carpet. You could try out small designs on small carpets before actually trying out designs on larger carpets. You also have to invest in the necessary tools to help you cut out the carpet into the desired shape and designs.
Once you establish your business of creative carpets, you have to do some marketing to maximize the number of sales of your carpets. You will need to have a website through which you will not only cater to local orders and customers; you will also get customers from across the world. However, with a website, you can handle online sales only if you have a merchant account so that the prospective client can make corresponding payments.
Printing some pamphlets and business cards is also a good marketing tactic; you can distribute these to all prospective customers. Pamphlets placed in areas people may most likely approach to buy carpets like shops selling household items and perhaps outlets in shopping complexes. You could also set up a stall in any expositions of household items. Display the best work you have created, and you could then either sell the item, or take orders from the visitors to the fair. You could then offer to either ship the carpets or ask them to come to your place to pick them up.
Custom welcome mats also make a unique and fun housewarming gift. You could offer to create custom-made carpets where people give you designs, on whose basis you create the carpet for them. Just to let people know of your ability of creating different shaped carpets, you could create a portfolio of the best designs and work you have done. Then after looking at the portfolio, the customer can get an idea of your competence in creating unique designs in carpets.
