Construction Photographs

Take photos of the various stages of a construction of a building and offer to sell them to the builder and the buyer. You will probably end up with around 100 good photos you can sell. You could make about $200 or more per set of photos.

If you own a good camera and like taking pictures, this could be an excellent way to make some extra money or even start a full time business. People often forget to take pictures when they are involved in a construction project. They are so busy taking care of all the needed arrangements that they don't think to take pictures through the whole process, even for remodels.

This is where you can step in and take the pictures for them. Digital cameras are great for a project like this. You could easily take 100 or more good pictures of a project, showing all of the different stages involved.

You can choose to take pictures of just about any project that is being built also, large and small, from huge bridges to home renovations. It is amazing to see how many people appreciate the documentation of changes to structures also. Keep good records of each time you take the pictures. The site, where on the site, the date and time, and anything else that will help explain and document your pictures.

If you check with the local town halls of most towns and cities in your area, they will always have the permits for future building sites, so that you can get the various addresses of projects that are going to start soon. This will help prepare you to take pictures even before the construction begins.

If this is a business idea that interests you, be prepared to keep very good records. This will be especially important so that you can visit each site on a regular basis, through the whole project, from start to finish. Of course, this will require you to have a reliable source of transportation. If you are in a large metropolis, public transportation will suffice, but if not you may need to rely on a vehicle. This is something to plan for when deciding if you would like to pursue taking photographs of work sites under construction.

If you already own a digital camera and a computer, the only expenses you may have to deal with will be for transportation and then whatever means of delivering your photos to your customers. Some may be perfectly happy with all of their photos on a CD and others may want them printed. A laptop computer would be a great way to display the photos for your customers also, and let them pick which photos they might like printed up, ask for a small fee when they order them, so that you can either print them yourself or have them printed. This way you can use the deposit to cover the printing costs up front.

You may even be able to discuss with some companies ahead of scheduled building to take the pictures for them. Draw up a small contract of what you will provide; this could assure you of not wasting your time taking the pictures. They may appreciate your services, so that they can see how the project is going if it is a distance away from the central office, asking for your pictures on a regular basis throughout the whole project.

Make sure that you have a business card with you at all times and share them whenever you are able to. It is also a good way to calm some contractors that may be curious why you are taking pictures of their construction site. They may be concerned that you are a city official at first.
